SUMMARY:Crescent Hill 5K Tow Rope Trot Fundraiser
DESCRIPTION:The perfect midsummer trail run is waiting for you! \nJoin Pottawattamie Conservation at Crescent Hill at Hitchcock for our first-ever Crescent Hill 5K | Tow Rope Trot & Nature Hike. Trek through the globally significant Loess Hills and take in the beautiful prairie views\, all while raising funds for a terrain park tow rope and new four-season recreation opportunities. \nRace Options:  \n5K: The 5K trail racing course will take you from the Crescent Hill ski lodge through wooded hillsides\, around a beautiful fishing pond\, and to the scenic top of the ski hill\, before you wind your way back to the base of the ski area. \nNature Hike: Participants may also sign up for a 2-mile nature hike/walk along Crescent Ridge Trail\, which loops around the entire ski area and offers scenic views and moderate terrain. \nTrail surface is dirt and gravel. \nTheme: \nWe hope you show up with bells on\, because it’s Christmas in July! Don your cheeriest running gear and jingle your way to the finish line for a chance to take home an award for best costume. \nAwards: \nStick around for the post-race award ceremony\, where eco-friendly race medals will be awarded to the top three male and female finishers per age group and for best costume. The top male and female finishers overall will also take home a free skiing weekend for two. \nAge Groups (5K Race): \n12 and under\, 13-19\, 20–29\, 30–39\, 40–49\, 50–59\, 60+ \nCost: \nThrough June 18th – $35\nJune 19th through July 17th – $40\n$45 on July 18th/Race day (Payments must be made onsite by card\, no cash) \nAdd-ons: \nShirts can be added on for $15\, and orders must be received by July 1st. \nDrink passes for ages 21+ will be available for $5 (card only) on-site\, the day of the race. The area is officially cashless\, although cash tips or donations are welcome and appreciated. \nDonate: \nUnable to attend but want to support the cause? You ROCK! Please consider donating or purchasing a shirt for $15. Proceeds support Crescent Hill at Hitchcock. Thank you! \nYour support will help Crescent Hill fund a terrain park tow rope (approximate cost of $25\,000) and support four-season recreation development as part of the area’s master plan that aims to expand outdoor recreation opportunities while preserving the globally significant Loess Hills. Southwestern Iowa’s Loess Hills harbor some of the last remnant prairie in the entire state\, of which less than 0.1% remains. Learn more about the new vision for the area\, which is officially a part of the 1\,500-acre Hitchcock Nature Center\, at explorecrescenthill.com.

SUMMARY:Litter Busters Park Cleanup
DESCRIPTION:Follow in the footsteps of the Dump Busters\, who saved this area in the Loess Hills from becoming a dump\, by joining our annual park cleanup.\nDid you know? Crescent Hill at Hitchcock (previously Mt. Crescent Ski Area) is officially a part of the 1\,500-acre Hitchcock Nature Center preserve. In the 1980s\, the park’s Loess Hills beauty and remnant prairie systems were almost turned into a bottled water factory\, and then\, of all things\, a dump. Thankfully\, local community members came together\, put their feet down\, and fought to protect this beautiful area. They’re known as the Dump Busters! We will be forever grateful to the hundreds of community members who rallied together to save this area for generations to come. \nTogether\, we can protect the park’s special beauty and all of the species that call it home. Join our park cleanup event from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday\, April 25th and follow in the Dump Busters’ footsteps. \n  \nHow to Participate:\n\nCheck in at one of the stations listed below anytime between 9 a.m. and 12 p.m.\n\nVolunteers will be given a bag to collect trash in and are encouraged to bring their own if they have it. Volunteers will also have the opportunity to enter themselves in a random drawing for a free camping stay.\n\n\nHit the hill! Enjoy a rejuvenating outdoor adventure while gathering any litter you come across along the way.\nWhen finished\, head to a check-out station to weigh and record your findings\, take a Litter Buster selfie\, and help sort any recyclables. Send your selfies to pottconservation@pottcounty-ia.gov or tag Hitchcock Nature Center or Crescent Hill at Hitchcock (previously Mt. Crescent) on Facebook\, Instagram\, or Twitter!\n\n  \nCheck-In Stations:\nPlease feel free to check in at either location listed below. We encourage visitors to check out before they leave so they can return any borrowed materials and weigh\, toss\, and recycle their findings. We keep track of how much litter is weighed to better understand the impacts of visitors on the park. \n\nSki Lodge at Crescent Hill at Hitchcock (previously Mt. Crescent Ski Area)\nLoess Hills Lodge at Hitchcock Nature Center\n\n  \nWhat to Bring & Wear:\nWe recommend bringing: \n\nA pair of protective gloves (this could be an old pair of winter gloves or work gloves)\nA trash bag (bags will also be made available at check-in)\n\nWe recommend wearing: \n\nLayers (it’s often a few degrees cooler at the park\, and windy)\nTall socks\nGood hiking shoes or boots\nSun protection\n\nWe know our visitors have the best intentions and do all they can to protect their natural areas. We appreciate anyone willing to help pick up litter along trails while they enjoy some quality time with Mother Nature! \n  \nRefreshments will be provided for volunteers as a thank you for their efforts.
